Welcome to Federal Way
The City of Federal Way was originally an unincorporated town created in 1929 in response to the burgeoning logging industry in the area. As a suburb of both Seattle and Tacoma, this small town grew as the flood of new employees of Boeing Aircraft Company moved to the area in the 1960’s.
Today, Federal Way is an incorporated city with a population of over 100,000 and is the 10th largest city in Washington State.

Transportation
The Seattle/Tacoma area has a variety of options when it comes to public transportation, should you need it. Besides the usual ride-share options (Uber/Lyft) there are several other options for getting around the area. See the list and links below for more information.
Bus, Light Rail, Train & Ferry
- Bus: Metro, Rapid ‘A’ Line, Greyhound
- Light Rail: Sound Transit “Link”. Line 1 serves this area. The nearest station will be by The Commons Mall (opening in 2025), but there are other stations a short drive away, the closest is Angel Lake Station, that will take you to SeaTac Airport (SEA), the Seattle sports stadiums, Downtown Seattle and beyond.
- Train: Amtrak. Stations: Seattle and Tacoma
- Ferries: Washington State Ferries.Several ferry lines run through the Seattle area and the nearby islands.
